Acleris Hübner, [1816] (Tortricidae: Tortricinae: Tortricini)

Only one purposely introduced species, Acleris zimmermani, is known from the Hawaiian Islands. This is the only Tortricidae in Hawaii with raised patches of scales on the forewing. (Note: most Carposinidae in Hawaii also have raised scales on the forewings). A. zimmermani also has a unique wing vein character: Forewing vein 7 (R5) reaches the wing margin at the costa rather than the termin (ie. before the farthest point of the wing). Although first introduced into Hawaii in 1964, the species was not named until Clarke described it in Zimmerman's (1978) Insects of Hawaii.
