Lower Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo

Our bearded pig research is taking place within the context of a multi-species, long-term research and conservation program based at Danau Girang Field Centre in the Kinabatangan region of Borneo. Researchers at the field centre study the behavioral and movement ecology of numerous large wildlife species, with the aim of understanding the requirements for viable persistence of populations in highly fragmented tropical landscapes. Within this context, we are using GPS tracking technology to study the fine- and coarse-scale spatial and temporal patterns of bearded pig movements, with an eye toward restoring habitat connectivity and reducing hunting pressure on the species.
