Our Values
- Recruiting and retaining conservation scientists from diverse identities
- Educating ourselves about anti-racism, racial justice, and systemic discrimination against historically, systemically, and persistently marginalized communities
- Promoting a multicultural community among conservation scientists
- Embracing the discomfort as we engage in difficult conversations and constructive dialogue
- Speaking out and pushing for change when we see microaggressions or institutional policies that disadvantage historically, persistently and systemically marginalized communities
- Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all
- Recruiting more individuals into natural resources from historically, persistently and systemically marginalized identities

Prof. Echeverri apologizes for not replying to your email(s) in advance. Due to the high volume of emails she gets, it is easy to lose track of all prospective students and postdocs.
Teaching
Having worked as a peace corps volunteer in Colombia and Norway, and as teaching assistant in Canada and Colombia, Prof. Echeverri has developed a unique teaching approach. Bringing together academic rigor and hands-on experience of outdoor education workshops with children and youth, her teaching encompasses the following key elements: 1) self-directed and collaborative learning, 2) place-based and outdoor education, 3) multimodality, and 4) decolonial practices.
At UC Berkeley, she will teach graduate seminars on community-engaged methods, behavioral sciences for conservation, and conservation policy. She willl also teach a general undergraduate course on conservation science that bridges principles of conservation biology with social science.
The content of this page will be updated throughout the year as courses get developed.
If you have a reading or a game that might be relevant to use in any of these courses, or if you are a community partner interested in partnering with students to create learning opportunities about conservation, please contact us.
