Misconceptions
of alcohol benefits
Some
believe that drinking beer is beneficial during pregnancy because it gives the
baby good skin. In reality, drinking during pregnancy is harmful to the fetus
because the child can develop fetal alcohol syndrome. The child will havemental
and physical delays.
Some people also believe that having a drink helps them to sleep better. There
is no scientific evidence that drinking alcohol will be beneficial for sleeping.
Rather, try taking a warm shower or have a warm cup of milk before going to bed.
The
link between alcohol and cancer
Drinking
too much alcohol increases the risk of cancers of the head and neck and of the
liver, and in women it increases their risk of breast cancer. The risk greatly
increases when the person smokes in addition to drinking alcohol.
