Metabarcoding

Henrik Krehenwinkel has been working on the development of 1. cost effective new markers for high throughout population genetic and phylogenetic analysis, 2. a metabarcoding approach to study the species composition in mixed arthropod samples and 3. studying the interactions of species using gut content analysis, which will allow insights into changes in foodwebs over time. Integral to this approach is the development of a large barcode reference database for the endemic arthropods from the islands that can serve as a benchmark for future work. All this data will contribute to a refined picture of population divergence and species interactions across the extended geological timeframe provided by the Hawaiian Islands.
