Research Interests

My research interests center on the social and ecological sustainability of marine fisheries, specifically in Sub-Saharan Africa. Applying frameworks from ecology, political science, development studies, and political ecology, I investigate the exploitation, utilization, and governance of fisheries in coastal communities throughout Ghana. My research at Berkeley explores how fishery access and fish availability shape livelihoods and impact the ecological and environmental context of the fishery. My research also considers how national and regional governance mechanisms facilitate or inhibit successful management of marine fisheries, prevent and deter illegal fishing, and address conflict and competition between small-scale and industrial fishers.

Before coming to Berkeley, I completed my BA in International Studies and Environmental Studies at Emory University, and a Masters in Marine Biology at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
