Patrick Makiri is a staff researcher in the Agroecology Lab interested in the cross sections of soil and water conservation and traditional farming practices in the US Southwest and Latin America. Patrick’s current research is on farmers’ perceptions of the opportunities and barriers to dry farming in California vineyards. He earned his BA in History from UC Santa Cruz exploring the ethnographies of US and Latin American social movements of the 20th century.

With a background in farming, environmental education and adventure guiding, Patrick brings a unique mix of skills and experiences that help him find creative solutions and collaborate with researchers.

In his free time you can find Patrick with his family, dog, out in nature or on his surfboard at Ocean Beach.
