ESPM 181A: Fire Ecology
Fundamentals of wildland fire including fire behavior modeling, fire history methods, prescribed fire techniques, fire ecology, fire management, fire in the urban-wildland intermix, wildland fire, and ecosystem sustainability. Laboratories on inventory methods, fire history, modeling of fire behavior and risk, and prescribed burning.
The lab of ESPM 181A requires specialized expertise. The lab meets 3 hrs a week and the TA has to teach labs on the following fire behavior and effects programs: Behave Plus, FARSITE, Flammap, Fire Family Plus, FOFEM, and NEXUS. In addition they have to be able to use the fire history software FHX2 and know how to crossdate fire history samples using dendrochronology for a 2 week lab.
