Video game shows how flocking birds avoid predators

European starlings keep predators at bay by flocking by the hundreds of thousands and creating a “confusion effect” against predation. Using 3D gaming software researchers have simulated the mesmerizing, pulsating pattern, called a murmuration, created by the birds numbers and modeled how it affects the success of aerial predators.
