Three subspecies of island fox (Urocyon littoralis) that have been on the endangered species list since 2004 have made a remarkable come back. The foxes, about the size of a house cat and looking remarkably like adorable plush toys have been removed from the endangered species list, and now numbering about 6,000. Their route back from the bring of extinction is a lesson in habitat restoration, introduced species, and old school conservation.
