Evidence of olive varietal tolerance in Italy

Giampetruzzi et al. just published a nice paper comparing gene expression patterns in two olive varietals in Italy. Based on field observations one variety is susceptible (Ogliarola) while another is tolerant (Leccino). First, they present bacterial population data showing that these varieties are in fact susceptible and tolerant. In addition, they conclude that plants perceive the presence of Xylella fastidiosa, and that cell wall-associated proteins represent a major component of plant responses to infection. click to download the paper
