In March of 2015 Berkeley, California, our hometown, enacted the US’s first soda tax on sugary drinks. The one penny per ounce tax on distributors, while controversial on a number of levels, appears to be working; a recent study showed a 21% drop in consumption of sugary beverages in low-income neighborhoods.
