The closest habitable world to our Solar System might be, astronomically speaking, right next door. Scientists have discovered an Earth-sized planet, named Proxima b, a mere 40 trillion km (25 trillion miles) away in the Proxima Centuri system. Would life be able to exist there? That’s another story given it orbits a red dwarf star and nobody knows if it has any kind of atmosphere, but I’ll bet a whole lot of exo-planetary scientists are going to try and find out.
