It’s pretty clear the dinosaurs, and about 75% of all the plants and animals on Earth, went extinct as the result of some significant event about 65 million years ago. Until recently that event was accepted to be the impact of a 10 km diameter asteroid that caused a massive global ecological disaster known as the KPg mass extinction. Now it seems that it might have been two events that hastened the decline of the dinosaurs, the asteroid and as series of enormous and sustained volcanic eruptions that occurred a couple of hundred thousand years earlier.
