Melanomas are the most aggressive and lethal type of skin cancer, killing one person every hour, and of course the threat is not just from the initial tumor but also from spreading to other organ systems. New research has discovered the mechanisms that allow melanoma to metastasize and identified kinase inhibitors that slow down spread of the tumor and prevent subsequent invasion and damage to the skin. These findings have the potential to turn malignant melanoma into a curable disease.
