Project Description: 

The Kelly Research and Outreach Lab is looking for motivated and enthusiastic undergraduates with an interest in historical vegetation data and maps for the state of California.  To facilitate data analysis in this innovative research project, the student will be asked to compile, georeference, and digitize historical maps for the state. The student will be trained in basic GIS skills and may participate in theanalysis of these data in concert with other state level vegetation data.  Given the student’s experience, interest, and available time they may also participate in a literature review of existing sources of vegetation or timber stand mapping throughout the State.  A background in GIS, geography, history, forestry, ecology or the like welcome, basic GIS and database management skills a plus.
