Analysis of Cellulase Secretion Pathways in Neurospora crassa

Efficient degradation of organic matter plays a key role in sustainable use of our energy and feedstock resources. Many filamentous fungi are true experts in efficiently degrading recalcitrant the lignocellulosic biomass of feedstocks; however, little is known about production and secretion of their degrading enzymes. Experiments outlined in this proposal aim to elucidate different protein secretion pathways for the different degrading enzymes using the model filamentous fungus Neurospora crassa.

What I enjoyed the most about SPUR is the ability to work with a true professional who is there to constantly guide you, who gives you advice, and who isn’t shy about giving you insights about their research methodology. My mentor, Timo, is knowledgeable, patient, and exceptionally approachable. I not only have a tremendous mentor, but also a friend whom I can depend on. His colleagues are equally approachable, friendly, and wildly sociable. Combined with a leisure workload and a beautiful workplace, SPUR bestowed upon me an extraordinary culture to be a part of.
