How did China save the giant panda?

Good news for Ailuropoda melanoleuca (aka the giant panda), The International Union for Conversation of Nature (IUCN) has just moved them from endangered to vulnerable on their Red List of Threatened Species. Much of the credit goes to China for bringing them back from the brink of extinction. The latest estimates show a population of just over 2,000. How did they do it? The answer lies in bamboo, the panda’s exclusive food source, of which they eat about 30kg (66lbs) a day, and conservation of bamboo habitat.
