Each year an estimated 6.5 million people die from causes linked to air pollution and that number is likely to increase significantly in the future. No country in the world is immune from the effects of air pollution with urban areas accounting for the majority of pollution sources. Energy production has been identified as the most important human-made source of air pollutant emissions.
