Research Description
My research focuses on the intersection of occupational epidemiology, women’s health, and worker justice. I am currently working on the Immigrant Women Workers Project within the Women Workers Biomonitoring Collaborative Group. The goal of our research is to understand the chemical exposure profiles that healthcare immigrant women workers experience and the psychosocial stressors that compound with the workplace to exacerbate breast cancer risk. I am also examining the risk perceptions that this community holds towards the chemicals they work with. We hope to lay the groundwork for a long-term project that uses biomonitoring in order to discover previously unstudied chemical exposures that can affect breast cancer and other health risks. We also intend to disseminate our findings with the union leaders we work with and hope to influence health and safety improvements for these workers.
