I study how hydropower dams and other river barriers influence freshwater ecosystems around the globe. My research focuses on the ecosystem effects of hydropower development in countries like Nepal, where aquatic biodiversity is severely understudied and the hydropower industry is growing. I am also interested river barrier removal, and how ecosystems reshape themselves when rivers are re-opened. My previous research has focused on the food web effects of recolonizing Pacific salmon populations, consequences of wetland eutrophication in the Himalayas, fish biodiversity and hydropower development in Nepal, and river barrier removal in England.
