Postdoctoral Researcher

Sintana Vergara is a Postdoctoral Scientist studying controls on emission of greenhouse gases from the composting of organic waste (manure, food waste, green waste). Her interest in waste can be traced back to a course she took in college called “Garbage.” Since then, she has conducted research on the climate benefits of reuse and recycling of waste in California and in Colombia, where she was a Fulbright Fellow. Before joining the Silver Lab, she was an Environmental Specialist at the World Bank, where she worked on improving solid waste management in developing cities. She holds degrees in Environmental Engineering (BS, Cornell University; MS, UC Berkeley), and in Energy and Resources (MS, PhD, UC Berkeley).
