Edible Education 101 was created in conjunction with the 40th-anniversary celebration of Chez Panisse Restaurant and Café in Berkeley, California. Alice Waters, founder of Chez Panisse and the Edible Schoolyard Project, launched the course in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, to bring edible education to the university level. The course is a unique hybrid: a public lecture series and a for-credit class for UC Berkeley students. The Edible Education series has been offered to undergraduate students and members of the general public since 2011.
The 2016 course was presented by the Rausser College of Natural Resources and led by Mark Bittman.
