Biomimicry: How Nature is Inspiring Radical Innovation, Apr 22

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

The wave of the future has been around since the beginning of time: it’s called Nature. Now an interdisciplinary and international group of scientists, inventors, and engineers is turning to Nature to innovate. Let inventor and entrepreneur Jay Harman introduce you to stunning, green, profitable solutions to some of the world’s thorniest problems.

Mr. Jayden Harman serves as Chief Executive Officer of PAX Water Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of PAX Scientific, Inc. A serial entrepreneur and inventor, Mr. Harman has taken a hands-on approach to his lifelong fascination with biomimicry. In the process, he has grown companies that design innovative products, ranging from prize-winning watercraft called the WildThing and the Goggleboat, to a medical research company that developed a non-invasive technology for measuring blood glucose, to his latest company, PAX Scientific. He began his career as a naturalist with the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, but he quickly demonstrated talents as an inventor. While still with the Australian government, he designed, built, and licensed a set of crustacean measuring gauges as well as a range of hovercraft. At the same time, he became a leading spokesperson for the fishing industry in southwest Australia, and was appointed Director of a government environmental commission overseeing waterways conservation. In 1982, Mr. Harman founded his first company, ERG, Ltd., which went public two years later and grew into one of Australia’s largest technology companies
