Are you having difficulty finding a focus, either for undergraduate research or public service work? Perhaps you know you want to do independent research, but you just settled on a major and have too many ideas? Or you know you want to do community-based research, but haven't decided on an issue yet? This workshop is designed to help you turn a general area of interest into something more focused and feasible. Over the course of an hour, you will identify your academic interests and learn techniques to help you select among them.
The workshop will be especially useful for upper-division undergraduates who want to write a senior/honors thesis, but it is open to all UC-Berkeley students (undergraduate, graduate, and visiting scholars) regardless of academic discipline.
Note: If you know you want to do independent research, but don't know where to start, this is the workshop for you. (On the other hand, if you already have a research topic in mind, you may want to attend the "How to Write a Research Proposal" workshop instead.)
