The Uncharted Festival of Ideas is back in downtown Berkeley for the fourth year on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15, and CNR is on the program!
The festival, a production of Berkeley’s independent news site, Berkeleyside, offers a rich mix of conversations with some of the world’s edgiest thinkers, as well as music and dance performances, fun interactive workshops, a bookstore, and an opening-night party on the UC Berkeley campus.
As part of our first ever Big Ideas @CNR competition, two of the six CNR faculty who proposed large-scale innovative projects benefiting the environment were selected to speak at Uncharted. John Battles will discuss how and why many ecosystems are suffering from loss of resilience. Dennis Baldocchi will address the water-food-people nexus: how climate change threatens California’s ability to sustain its population and its economy. They will be joined by Yosemite Steve (aka Steve Bumgardner), one of the world’s great natural history filmmakers, who will provide a visual insight into working in the High Sierra.
