Saira Ahmed (She/Her)

Bio/CV:

Hi everybody, I’m Saira! I’m a third-year double majoring in Conservation & Resource Studies and Environmental Economics & Policy, also pursuing a minor in Journalism. I am passionate about wildlife ecology, ecosystem management, and science communications.

It was my love for nature photography that brought me to pursue these pathways, and I’ve been so excited to keep pursuing photojournalism beyond my coursework. But zooming back into Rausser, I have been part of both SPUR and URAP faculty projects on various conservation ecology initiatives, and I am leading one student-initiated project on wetland habitat types. I am super interested in research applications for wildlife management and advancing environmental education initiatives. These interests brought me to join the undergraduate environmental journal (Perennial) and the Cal Hiking and Outdoor Society (CHAOS) to further connect with outdoorsy folk on campus. I’ll also be a Fall 2026 Fung Fellow on the Sustainability & Innovation track.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out about anything, whether about transferring from another college into Rausser (I rescued myself from L&S), applying to research and internships, double-majoring, choosing a minor, finding the best courses, or joining welcoming campus communities. I am also always happy to talk about cafe, book, movie, music, hiking, and study spot recommendations – whatever floats your boat!
