During the remote learning period, we are adapting our wellness programming to meet the unique nature of this time. In Spring 2021, Rausser College is partnering with the UHS Health Worker Program to host a peer health worker in our advising office. Gerard Legaspi will hold weekly office hours as part of the Virtual Front Desk, share weekly health tips on the newsletter and virtual bulletin board, and is available as a health resource to Rausser students. 

When we’re on campus, wellness events occur monthly throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. They focus on connecting students with resources on campus, exploring the various areas of wellness, and generally encouraging students to take time for their own wellbeing. Rausser partners with various organizations on-campus. Meet the RCNR Health Worker Gerard Legaspi

Hey there! My name is Gerard (he/him), a second-year studying Molecular Environmental Biology and minoring in Nutritional Sciences: Physiology and Metabolism. I’ll be your Raussser College of Natural Resources Health Worker! As a health worker, I can help you navigate resources for your wellness, stability, prosperity, and full potential as your peer “first point of contact” for non-emergency health advising. I also post health tips on the virtual bulletin board and via emails weekly to share basic illness, first aid, and safer sex information. Outside of being a health worker, I am a resident assistant in Unit 1, a lab technician for the Yildiz Lab in Stanley Hall, and a research assistant for the Center for Environmental Health in Oakland, CA! In my free time, I love caring for house plants, going on adventures with friends, and trying new foods. Hope to see you in my office hours!

Wheel of Wellness

Emotional: Includes self-care, relaxation, stress reduction, and the development of inner strength. Emotional intelligence means being aware and able to regulate both positive and negative emotions while handling interpersonal relationships with empathy. Promotes self-awareness, authenticity, autonomy, compassion, and proper decision making.

Environmental: Living a lifestyle that is connected to and respectful of nature. Encourages taking actions to protect the Earth and improve your own personal environment. Involves being aware of climate issues and taking steps to conserve Earth's resources.

Intellectual: Stimulating your mind by engaging in creative activities. Expanding knowledge and skills while sharing knowledge with others. In addition to academic study, community involvement, practical skill training, and personal hobbies all expand intellectual wellness. 

Physical: Living an active lifestyle that keeps your body in a strong condition. Includes maintaining adequate nutrition, physical activity, and sleep. Involves being mindful of your body's needs and may include regular check-ups with medical professionals to ensure physical health. 

Social: Maintaining strong relationships with others and participating in group activities. Encourages fostering a deep, genuine connection with those around you.  Involves balancing friendships and romantic relationships with other priorities.

Spiritual: Being in tune with your spiritual self.  Finding meaning in life's events and your own purpose. Can be defined through religious faith, values, ethics, and morals. Taking the opportunity to practice mindfulness - being aware of the present moment and reflecting on it non-judgementally. 

Cultural: Being connected to your community and being aware of your background and upbringing. Can involve in participating in cultural activities and connecting with others that share your cultural identity. Being accepting and encouraging of cultural diversity and building positive relationships with those in other cultures.

Financial: Maintaining a healthy budget and being cognizant of your financial obligations. Prioritizing expenses, looking for areas to save when available, and building savings.

Occupational/Career: Pursuing careers that promote personal satisfaction and enrichment. Striving toward careers that meet your personal needs and create meaning. Preventing burnout in the workplace and maintaining healthy workplace relationships with coworkers and supervisors. Taking opportunities to improve your marketable skills and lead to professional growth.
