The Be A Scientist program, which aims to boost science curriculum in middle schools, has been granted the Chancellor's Campus-Community Partnership Award. The annual award recognizes campus-community partnerships and University-sponsored programs that improve the quality of life in the greater community.

Designed and led by Mary Wildermuth, professor of plant and microbial biology, the outreach program places Berkeley researchers into middle school classrooms, in order to mentor students and bolster science curriculum. Hundreds of research scientists have participated in Be A Scientist, which is supported with funding from the Public Schools Fund, the University’s Chancellor’s Community Partnership Fund, and Berkeley Unified School District.
