Late last month, ahead of what is expected to be another severe fire season in California, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a surge in funding for firefighting efforts and forest management. Meanwhile at Rausser College, forestry experts have long been at the forefront of wildfire mitigation and management. In December, a research partnership between Berkeley Forests and CAL FIRE was announced to explore critical forest and fire issues.
Last week, MSNBC News featured Rob York, an assistant Cooperative Extension specialist and adjunct associate professor of forestry. York hosted MSNBC's Jacob Ward at Blodgett Forest, a UC research station where his team studies how prescribed burning can help reduce wildfire risk. The segment can be viewed below:
