  • Logging Sports: Justine

    • Sierra Cascade last weekend:

      • We made friends with the pros

      • Alumni donated $6,300 to logging sports, a record amount (very emotional moment for justine, plz support)

        • Justine will be getting thank you notes together

        • Will send out photos

      • If you drove she has gas money for you

    • Upcoming

      • Will be driving up to work on the site Friday (choker set), she’ll send an email

      • Practice Sunday

      • Redwood regionals march 17th/19th (thursday-saturday of Spring break)

  • VP: Alan

    • Taco Tuesday, huge turnout

    • Dodgeball team! --> not too late to sign up for the game tonight. Contact Alan and he’ll add you!

    • Humberk camping trip scheduled for March 11th-12th

      • Alan will send out doodle to see if you want to go, so that he can book the sites

    • Wiffleball on Sunday Feb. 28th

    • For Xi Signma Pi do not need to be professional to make an axe and join frat

    • Can go to Prof. Stephens office to get a hunk o’ wood

    • Can get a ring, but must be an SAF member

 

  • California SAF Rep:

    • CA SAF is trying to be more supportive of student chapters

      • Partial reimbursement for student attendance at the meeting

    • Summer meeting in the later half of August

      • Funding support approved for student chapter participation

    • Discussion: How can a volunteer organization like SAF support us? Results of the panel at the Winter meeting:

      • Providing job support (Announcements, resume collections)

      • What about offering a young professional rate? Already exists ($95 per year)

      • Are students represented in the leadership of CA SAF? Student Chapter chairs should be able to attend meetings.

        • Are student chapter chairs receiving notifications of committee meetings? Yes, but not at convenient times for students to attend (out of Berkeley, mid-week).

      • What does an active role in SAF look like? Want to be involved where there is a potential for impact.

        • Would need people to be involved at the chapter level, lots dying off.

      • Field Trips to visit SAF professionals at work? → Bay Area SAF chapter does this, but having some trouble getting the ball moving on that

        • Workshops on new technologies in Forestry?

      • Make SAF more social:

        • Forestry club is social, can we transfer this to SAF? Bean Feeds?

    • What does SAF do?

      • SAF is the professional society for foresters in the US.

      • SAF produces policy statements, represents us in Washington.

      • Accreditation society to ensure educational programs are up to standards (ie for the new Forestry major!)

      • Fun fact: Kevin has been a member since 1980. Join the league of legends.
